Kansas might be a hidden gem of the Midwest. This state ranks #2 when it comes to the most museums per capita, coming second only to New York. Kansas is moderately tax-friendly for retirees, and they don’t impose estate or inheritance taxes, either. Plus, I hear they really like bread in the Wheat State.

Beyond that, it didn’t top any lists to become the best in anything… but it didn’t make the bottom, either. Not the best, but certainly not the worst!
