Affordability: 41

Quality of Life: 24

Health Care: 21

Coming in at #48 when it comes to the adjusted cost of living, retiring to Oregon is going to set you back some. And while Oregon doesn’t tax Social Security benefits, other retirement income is subject to tax — and Oregon’s income tax rates are among the highest.

There is at least a bright spot or two here. Health care costs are typically lower in Oregon as compared to the U.S. average. Oregon also squeaks into the top half when it comes to quality of life.
