Jane Benyo married Tom Petty, the lead singer for the band Heartbreakers, in 1974. The two were high school sweethearts and had a beautiful ceremony in Gainesville, Florida. However, their marriage was as happy as it seemed to be, and the couple split up in 1996, after twenty-two years together.
The couple also had two children together, Adira and Kimberly. She was a supporting wife and homemaker, and after the two divorced, she went off the radar.
