Prevent First Day Of School Tears For Both You And Your Child

The first day of school does not have to involve first day of school tears for you or your child.  It is understandable that the first day of school is an emotional day for both of you but there are ways to keep the first day of school tears at bay.

Talk to your child about the fact that they are starting school soon and all of the fun that they are going to have there.  If it is possible, take your child to tour their classroom before the first day.  Doing this will make it a familiar place for them and one that they know there is nothing to be fearful of.  Allowing them to meet their teacher before the first day of school takes the chances way down of your child having first day of school tears.  A lot of schools now arrange for this to happen to help your child transition because they know the value of easing the anxiety for your child.  After a meeting with the teacher, your child will most likely be excited about going back to spend time with them.

Arranging something fun for your child to look forward to on the first day of school can take the chances down of them having first day of school tears.  Maybe you can plan to go out of ice cream sundaes when they get home from school or for a trip to the movies.  The point is that your child has something else to think about on the first day of school.  They will be looking forward to the evening festivities that await them.

As for yourself, there is just no easy way to watch your baby growing into an elementary student.  But you can plan something fun for yourself after you drop them off such as meeting your husband for a coffee date or an exercise class.  The important thing to remember is if your child comes home happy, that is the most important thing.
