JK Rowling’s famed Harry Potter series reached to new heights as a movie franchise, and when the last movie released in 2011, Potter fans were crushed at the realization of the finality of their adventures with Harry, Ron, and Hermoine. After eight films, the fans are still wanting more – and what the fans want, they get: it’s just been announced that three more Harry Potter movies are on the way!
The famed author penned an accompaniment to her international bestsellers entitled Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and the Warner Bros studio is making the movie. Not only will they be making a movie on the semi-prequel, but WB is chopping it up into three new feature films to cover ground.
Word of the project first came about when the New York Times published a profile of new WB chief Kevin Tsujihara, who was actually responsible for getting Rowling on board with the whole ordeal – she will be writing the films herself.
“When I say he made ‘Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t PR-speak but the literal truth,” Rowling toldThe Times. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”
The new trilogy will be set 70 years before the first Harry Potter movie began and will focus on the New York adventures of a “magizoologist” named Newt Scamander.
If that’s not enough Harry Potter for you, Rowling is also writing new chapters for the official fansite, Pottermore.com and a Harry Potter stage play is set in the works as well.
