Hair breakage is an annoying problem to have and one that can ruin a beautiful hairstyle that you otherwise love. When you are experiencing hair breakage, the first thing you need to do is figure out what is causing it, then you can start repairing the damage.
It turns out there are several causes of hair breakage. Styling tools are one cause of hair breakage, flat irons in particular. If your flat iron grabs and snags your hair as you are running it down the length of your hair, it is not a good quality flat iron. But even good quality flat irons are hard on your hair due to the high temperatures that they use to straighten your hair. The fix for this cause of hair breakage is to use a quality flat iron and always use it on the lowest temperature setting that will work for your hair. When you can, give your hair the day off from being styled. Let it air dry and don’t use any styling tools on it.
Another common cause of hair breakage is using the wrong styling products. It is important to select styling products such as shampoo, conditioner and others that are right for your hair. The wrong type of product can dry your hair out. The most drying type of hair product are those that promise to add body and volume. While products like root lifters are fine, avoid shampoos and conditioners that promise to give you volume and body. If you need more specific suggestions on what type of products to use, ask your hair stylist. She knows your hair type better than you do.
The last common cause of hair breakage is handling your hair too roughly. If you are constantly grabbing your hair and putting it back in a tight bun or ponytail, it will eventually cause hair breakage. Try to use hair accessories that are not rough on your hair to prevent this.
