With sandal season upon us, so is the need for a pedicure. After all, what good are sandals if you can’t show off your perfectly done toenails? However, more and more of us are having to cut out extras in our budgets and manicures and pedicures are often the first to go. You don’t have to give up your beloved pedicure. No, you can get the same professional quality results at home.
First, gather your supplies. You will need a large basin, one to two cups of marbles or round glass rocks, very warm water, body scrub, a foot file, lotion, nail polish remover, cotton swabs, nail clippers or toenail clippers, a cuticle stick, toe separators, your choice of nail color and clear coat.
Begin your pedicure by filling your basin with very warm water. Scatter the marbles or round rocks evenly in the bottom. Place your feet on top and gently rub back and forth across the marbles or rocks and soak for about 20 minutes. When the 20 minutes is up, remove your feet and dab the water off, leaving your feet damp. Over a trash receptacle, use the foot file to take care of any rough areas of skin. Apply lotion to your feet and lower legs, being careful to not apply to the toenail area. Allow to dry; this takes about 5 minutes. Clip your nails to the length you prefer. Use the cuticle stick to push back your cuticles.
You are now ready to move on to applying polish. Place toenail separators in between your toes to prevent smudges. If you don’t have toenail separators a twisted paper towel will work nicely. Evenly apply two coats of your choice of nail color starting from the middle and working your way out on each toe. Allow two minutes to dry in between coats. Wait five minutes then finish with a coat of clear coat to set your pedicure. Allow to dry and you will have the perfect summer pedicure at a fraction of the cost.
