15 Keys to Achieving Success

success concept

Success is a goal that just about everyone has. Whether it is success in your career, your personal life or both, everyone wants to succeed at something and there is not one thing wrong with that. However, a lot of people think that succeeding is more difficult than it actually is, and that might be why they haven’t succeeded in meeting that goal. Read on for 15 tips that will help you on your path to success.

Marry Well

No, this doesn’t mean marrying the first rich old man that you meet and hoping he leaves everything to you when he’s gone. It means marrying the man that is best for you; someone who supports you, loves you, makes you laugh and makes you want to stick around for the next, oh, forever or so. This guy is paramount to your success.

Do What You Love

It’s one thing to work a job that pays the bills, but it’s a different story to continue to work a job that isn’t worth your time or talent. Your life is about you and your success depends on what you do. You will never be successful if you aren’t doing what you love. Finding a career that you love means you will never work a day in your life; and that is one form of success.

Be Grateful

If in your heart you are not grateful for all that you have every single day, you will not find success. If you can’t find happiness with the small things, you will never succeed in finding happiness with anything more. It’s the small things that mean the most (and they say size doesn’t matter).

Be Generous

Those who are truly successful can afford to be generous. Maybe you can’t afford financial generosity at the moment, but you can afford generosity of mind and spirit. You can help those who need your help and you will find that your road to success seems a lot easier. You get what you give.

Understand Happiness

Sure, a beach house, luxury cars and millions of dollars will make anyone happy, but it won’t last too long. Possessions are nice, but at the end of the day, your happiness is not based on your material possessions but rather on friendship, family, love and enjoyment of life. When you understand that is what happiness really is, you will succeed.

Be Persistent

Have you ever heard the saying that a river doesn’t cut through a mountain based on its strength but because it never gives up? Persistence is the biggest key to success, even if you have to try again and again and again for the rest of your life; one day, you will succeed.

Improve Yourself

When you live a life of constant improvement, you have no choice but to succeed. Learning that you will never be perfect and that you can always improve something in your life will make it easier for you to succeed at everything you put your mind to (even cooking that Thanksgiving turkey that’s been intimidating you for years).

Give More than 100 Percent

With a smile on your face, always give more than what’s expected of you. How can you not succeed in life when your efforts are more than anyone else’s and the way you make others feel is better than others?

Save Money

Even if you don’t make much now, save. Save, save, save. You cannot succeed in life if you don’t learn how to be financially responsible, and that means saving money even when you don’t have much to save in the first place. A dollar a day is a savings; no matter how small.

Quality Over Quantity

No matter how much of something you want or think you can do, make sure your work is always quality work. What matters in the end is the quality, not the quantity of what you did. An author with one amazing book is going to be remembered far more than the author with a dozen so-so books.

Learn to Forgive

When you hold onto anger or a grudge, you’re only hurting yourself. You don’t have to be around the people who hurt you, but you do need to forgive them for their mistakes and move on with your life. Besides, when you hold onto your anger, they win and you’re just angry (and you don’t want those jerks to win).

Be Decisive

Your decisions won’t always be good ones (remember that mullet and those shoulder pads from 1993?) but at least a bad decision is a decision. Being able to make a decision is a far better attribute than not being able to make one.

Remember the Golden Rule…

….and live by it. Treat others as you wish to be treated. You will be very thankful one day when you reach the level of success you’ve always dreamed of that you treated everyone on your way there with kindness and respect. Why, you ask? Because they’ll continue treating you with the same kindness and respect; and when people are nice and respectful to you, it’s just super awesome.

Be Positive

You can’t be successful if you aren’t positive. A negative attitude will bring negativity into your life, and negativity is not awesome. So, wake up and be awesome. And that means being positive and enthusiastic (though it’s perfectly fine to wait until after you’ve had your coffee to be either).

Remember You Cannot Please Everyone

What’s that saying? Oh yes, “Haters’ gonna hate.” It doesn’t matter what you do in life, every single person in the world is not going to be happy for your success, or even care about it. Some will say you don’t deserve it, others will say you aren’t good at what you do, but it doesn’t matter. As long as you understand that this is life, you will succeed.
