Imagine leaving your toddler in your bedroom for just a few minutes as you went to cook breakfast in the morning, only to find out that your beloved baby fell out of your bedroom window. How tragic is that?! It happened this week in a Burbank, CA neighborhood, and luckily for one family, Konrad and Jennifer Lightner were there to witness it!
Konrad and Jennifer were moving out of their Burbank apartment Sunday morning, carrying their box spring mattress out when they saw a 3-year-old boy throw his leg over the window sill of his third-story window. Thanks to their quick reflexes and conveniently timed move, the toddler fell… right into the mattress. According to Burbank Police Lt. John Dilibert, the boy was hanging on to what appeared to be a telephone line or a cable line before he fell.
“We called 911 and Konrad threw the box spring down trying to break his fall and stood there to catch him,” Jennifer Lightner said.
A neighbor quickly rushed to alert the toddler’s parents, who had no idea what had just happened and were extremely grateful to the Lightners.
“It was very surreal afterwards,” Jennifer explained. “We were just moving the rest of the day and every once in a while we’d look at each other and just be like, ‘That happened. That was real.’”
Konrad said, “It feels like I watched a TV show, like it didn’t happen to me. I’m not a hero. I just walked by and just tried to help. We were lucky to be there.”
Thus is proof that guardian angels do exist.
