Which Vitamin Should You Take?

Although we all try to eat well, it is virtually impossible to get all of the vitamins and minerals we need from our diet.  I am a firm believer in vitamins and take mine faithfully.

There are some specific vitamins a woman should consider taking.  First and foremost you want a daily multivitamin that will cover the basics for you.  In a multivitamin you will get a bit of everything you need.  It is important to make sure that you get one with iron, a mineral many women lack.  A tip to keep in mind: iron is absorbed better when taken with vitamin C.  So, you can either pop a vitamin C pill with your daily multivitamin or you can take your multivitamin with a glass of orange juice.  Either will work.

The next vitamin you should consider taking is the vitamin C I just mentioned.  Vitamin C is known to boost your immune system.  Since many of us have children that seem to have a chronic cold, this can help you ward off the germs.  Zinc is another good choice to boost your immune system.

Calcium is a good supplement for women to have in their vitamin regime.  As we age, our bones begin to get weaker.  Calcium can prevent this from happening.  Because bone loss can begin to occur by age 30, it’s a good idea to take one of these vitamins daily.  Make sure you choose one with vitamin D in with it for optimal benefits.  An important thing to remember; calcium supplements should be taken separately from your multivitamin with iron as calcium prevents the iron from absorbing.  It is a lot to remember but you’ll get the hang of it.

Vitamin B, in all it’s forms, offers many benefits.  A simple B complex is good at boosting energy, something we all seem short on these days.  It can also help prevent headaches and help with PMS.

Whatever vitamins you choose, you can feel good about the fact that you are helping your body be healthier.
