We have heard it for years; breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It turns out it really is. Breakfast is important because when you wake up in the morning, your body hasn’t had food for at least eight hours and needs nourishment. If you skip breakfast then you will be more likely to be irritable and overeat later on in the day because you are starving by the time you allow yourself to finally eat.
Breakfast kind of sets the tone for your day. If you eat a healthy breakfast then you will feel good and energetic for the day you have ahead of you. If you allow yourself to gorge on junk when you wake up then you can count on feeling badly the rest of the day.
If you fill up on a good breakfast in the morning then you will be less likely to overeat later. If you eat a healthy breakfast your body doesn’t feel like it is going into starvation mode and is more easily satisfied throughout the day.
A good breakfast can be a difficult thing to have when you are busy and have chaotic mornings getting ready for work, getting the kids off to school or both. But with a little planning, you can make a healthy breakfast happen for yourself and your family. Start by stocking your cabinets with items like quick oats, whole grain breads and healthy cereals full of vitamins and fiber. You can have quick oats, cereal or make toast and put peanut butter on it for a good protein boost. Boiling up a dozen eggs at the beginning of the week is another item you can have ready for those busy mornings.
Whatever way you choose to make breakfast happen, you are sure to feel better when you take time for this most important meal of the day.
