There are many household products that we tend to purchase from the store that we could easily (and affordably) make ourselves, in the comfort of our own home. Items like shampoos, soaps, and cleaning products are at the top of the list. Many of the products we often buy for cleaning purposes – ourselves as well as our things and appliances – tend to contain many chemicals that can be toxic to our health. Aside from all the random toxins that are possible to be found, it can be more cost effective to make your own cleaners, including fabric softener. Sure, you can buy that brand name or even generic store brand fabric softener. But if you somehow find yourself lacking in it late at night or have no way to make your way to the store, rest assured that there is a cheap and easy way to make it yourself.

Making your own DIY fabric softener is extremely easy, and you most likely have all of the ingredients in your home on a regular basis. There are a mere three key ingredients, all of which are very cheap: water, vinegar, and hair conditioner. You’ll need six cups of water, two cups of hair conditioner (any kind is fine), three cups of white vinegar – and as another option, you can also throw in some essential oils if desired. Simply get a gallon jug to put everything in – it could even be a gallon size bottle of your finished fabric softener bought from the store so you know what it is! Pour the six cups of water into the bottle, then the three cups of white vinegar, and then lastly, you pour in the two cups of hair conditioner. Add in essential oils if you like (this is optional) and voila, you have your very own fabric softener! It’s so fast, so cheap and incredibly easy to make.
