The news that Marriott is acquiring Starwood Hotels is old at this point, and people are still pretty upset about the idea that their SPG points might not be worth very much when the merger occurs in mid-2016. However, that does not change the fact that SPG is still offering some pretty lucrative earning opportunities, which means you’re going to be able to earn more points to use before you decide it’s time to take advantage of them while they’re still what they are now.
SPG just announced that the brand is allowing their members to earn double points at the beginning of 2016 by staying two or more nights at any Starwood hotel. All you have to do is stay two nights, and the rewards are doubled. All SPG members will earn four points instead of two for every dollar spent at the hotel. You will not get to earn double points when you stay only one night, but you can add that second one and earn double points on your stay. You are going to stay between January 11 and April 30. Additionally, SPG Elite members will earn even more points for their stay of two nights or more, but they will need to register by April 10.
Of the SPG offers and promotions that are offered throughout the year, this is not the one that is most exciting. However, if you already have a stay planned or you are going to consider one, do it for at least two nights so that you can earn double the points. The point is to earn as many points as possible, so why not earn them when they are basically being offered two for one? Take advantage of this deal for Valentine’s day or a quick little getaway.
