There are different reward categories with all credit cards, and the Chase Freedom card is no exception to the rule. This is a card that offers 5x cash back throughout the year at certain retailers, and you can earn a significant amount of cash back rewards by shopping any of these categories during the given time frame. The Chase Freedom 5x cash back categories change quarterly.
What this means is that throughout the year you have the opportunity to spend up to $1500 per quarter in certain categories and get 5x the points. This means you could potentially earn as many as 7500 points per quarter – and that doesn’t even include points you accrue with your everyday purchases. Before you sign up for the card, however, you might want to know what the categories are. The specifics change yearly, but the categories remain mostly the same throughout the year.
Restaurants
Anytime you go to a restaurant and pay for your meal with the Chase Freedom card, you will earn 5 points for every dollar you spend here during the quarter restaurants are the selected categories. This includes high-end restaurants and fast food restaurants, even mom and pop restaurants that aren’t nationally known.
Shops
The shops depend greatly on participation. It might be Kohls one quarter and Lowes the next. However, it’s always a store that is very popular and has a lot to offer. This means that if you keep track of where your rewards points are going, you could earn a lot of points to redeem toward something really amazing when you shop all year.
Gas
This one is fairly self-explanatory, and very beneficial. You need gas. Simply use your Chase Freedom card to purchase your gas for the entire quarter when it’s the chosen category and you will earn 5x the points. And this is good at all gas stations across the country, and in most other countries. It’s one of the simplest ways to earn reward points.
