Bad Credit can affect your life in so many ways. It can affect your ability to get a loan or a credit card. It can determine if you can rent an apartment or other financial issues. Bad credit is a terrible thing to have to deal with but it doesn’t have to be permanent. There is a way out of bad credit once and for all so that you can go on with your life and have a brighter future.
The first thing that you need to do is make a decision that you are going to be more responsible with your finances and not continue making the same mistakes over and over that got you into this mess in the first place. There is no point trying to clean up your past credit history if you are only going to repeat it over and over again.
Start where you are and begin paying your bills in a timely manner. That is your first goal before you start paying off any old debts. Do not avoid debt collectors. Answer their calls and explain you intend to work with them. If you are able to do so, set your current debts up on a payment plan to begin resolving them. Do not agree to payments that are higher than you know you will be able to pay. It is better for the debt to take a little longer to be paid off and be paid in a consistent manner than to miss payments and not be able to pay the debt off in full.
Get a copy of your credit report to see where you stand with past debts. It is important to know what is in your credit report because many times there are errors that need to be fixed. Check for those first and then begin resolving your past debts starting with the one with the lowest balance first.
Don’t give up hope. There is a way out of bad credit.
