There are plenty of things in life that we all tolerate. We tolerate traffic, bad drivers, unfortunate weather, and taxes (especially taxes). However, I often wonder why we spend so much of our lives tolerating things that do not deserve our tolerance. Since my husband and I welcomed our first child four years ago, I’ve learned that my tolerance level for things that I’ve dealt with my entire life has dramatically declined, and I’ve stopped tolerating things that make me unhappy (that I can control). I want to be a good role model for my girls, and showing them that part of life is tolerating things we have the power to change is not the example I want to provide.
Toxic People
I spent a long time maintaining friendships with people I simply do not like because I didn’t know how to get rid of them. My guilt led me to keep them in my life because I didn’t want to offend anyone. One person in particular made me so tired. At first I thought her constant need to try and compete with me was my own imagination until dozens of our mutual friends began commenting on it. I finally decided that I do not want someone in my life that tries to compete with everything I do and I haven’t spoken to her in about a year. It has been so relaxing not to have to deal with her childishness and poor influence on her own child.
An Unhealthy Lifestyle
You have the power to change your life. You can stop drinking, stop smoking, and start eating right. Start exercising. You can get rid of your extra weight and unhappiness with your body simply by making lifestyle changes.
Negativity
There is no reason you have to tolerate negativity in your life. If you find yourself surrounded by negative people, stop talking to them. Remove all negativity from your life and you will live a much happier existence.
