There are more than 15 reasons AI will not replace writers. But in the spirit of keeping things simple, here are a few of them.
Lack of human emotions
Especially in Creative Writing, there is a slew of emotional content that many people can discover when reading. Machines have a hard time replicating this for several reasons.
AI cannot replicate human experience
AI can talk about human experience for certain, but they can’t make it sound as though it’s something that has been experienced. Some would state that this is ridiculous, but the average reader can tell the truth.
AI lacks creativity and originality
Some would argue that AI can be creative using set patterns and existing data. But the human mind, while still attracted to patterns, knows how to turn corners and change things up now and then.
Context and Emotional Intelligence
The human experience is a tough thing for AI to replace, or even replicate. Humans know how to tug at the heartstrings of readers with a plethora of literary tricks.
Expertise in Subject Matter
Sometimes one needs a deep dive that draws on the personal experience of the writer and the subject they’re writing about. AI can’t get this on its own, and thereby can’t write about anything other than what it’s programmed to write.
Authenticity
AI can replace a writer whose brand is simple and doesn’t deviate. But considering that a brand has to evolve and change to remain relevant, AI can’t always step beyond its programming.
Adaptability
Humans don’t need the fine-tuning that AI does to change and adapt over time. Plus, the flexibility needed for certain styles of writing is not always possible with AI.
Lack of insight
Humans can ensure that AI will not replace writers in many ways. Having an insight as to what people want and how the industry will change is a boon to human writers.
No anticipation
AI can’t look ahead to see how the trends are changing unless it’s programmed to do so. The winds of change, as it’s often called, is a phenomenon that humans are uniquely attuned to when it comes to writing.
Writing should not become an assembly line
This is more of a personal feeling than anything, but it’s one that many writers share. Each work that is churned out takes time, effort, and a great deal of personal sacrifice.
It contributes to the loss of jobs
This is a constant fear among many professions, but shouldn’t be one when it comes to writing. Should AI be allowed to take over though, quality will go down along with the number of jobs.
Automated writing is not the same
It’s attributed to a feeling again, but that doesn’t make it untrue. There’s no verve with automated writing, no opinion, which means it doesn’t invite argument or agreement.
AI does not know how to create a unified story
The type of programming needed to make this happen, heaven forbid, is not yet possible. If it ever does become fine-tuned enough to work, then woe to all writers.
It opens up the ability for plagiarism
An AI can’t exactly take credit for the work it’s programmed to produce. This means that too many people will be tempted to claim that an AI creation is their own work.
Writing links humanity
It’s one of the oldest forms of communication in the world, and one that keeps us close, if not always united. Trying to place a middleman between a writer and their audience is kind of ridiculous.
