There are plenty of things in life worth caring about, and just as many that are so not worth caring about. What defines you is what you care about. Now is the time to stop and take stock in the things you care about and decide whether or not you care for the right reasons. Here are a few examples of things you need to stop caring about right now; you’ll be happier, more successful, and grateful that you know this.
Guess what? No matter what you do in life, not everyone will like you. Since you can’t make the entire world love you all the time, why even bother caring about it? As long as you are happy with you, don’t worry about what other people think about you.
Being Politically Correct
You know what? This country is built on the foundation that freedom of speech is something we all have. Use it. Stop worrying that what you say might offend others. If you have an opinion, voice it.
What Other People Want for You
My parents always wanted the best for me, but their idea of the best and my idea of the best are not the same thing. I could tell my dad was devastated when I decided to leave my career to stay home and raise my children when I was pregnant with my first. He wasn’t thrilled that I gave up on my professional career to be a mom, because he wanted more for me than that (it never occurred to him that I still had financial freedom and happiness). When I decided to start writing and became even more successful than I ever imagined, he was proud again. If I’d cared what he wanted for me, I never would have left my job, stayed home with my girls, and been able to accomplish the success I have now.
What Other People Have
What other people have is none of your business. I used to be friends with a girl who cared so much about what I have that she ended up spending more than she could afford to keep up with me and she is now drowning in debt and having to borrow toilet paper from her parents because she cannot afford it. And this, my friends, is the information she gave me right out of her mouth.
