15 Reasons People Feud With Their Neighbors

The 15 reasons people feud with their neighbors are kind of silly when you think about them. But that doesn’t stop them from doing it.

Property lines

This is a common dispute between neighbors, but the fact is that many folks would rather work this out with their neighbors. Agitating the person living next to you isn’t always a great idea.

Noise complaints

This is another big one, but it usually has more to do with younger neighbors who don’t yet realize that loud noises are not always desired. A lot of neighborhoods have endured a large number of noise complaints.

Holiday decorations

You would think that people would just let their neighbors have a good time during the holidays. But Halloween and Christmas are two of the big ones when it comes to complaints about decorations.

Parking spots

In the inner city and in various neighborhoods where parking comes at a premium this tends to be a big issue. It’s easier to make parking arrangements when one moves in, if possible.

Pets

Let’s be fair here, pets and kids are kind of loud and annoying sometimes. If you follow the rules for pets in a given neighborhood though, then it’s your neighbor who might have the problem.

Home exterior

Maybe you have a car on blocks in the yard, or maybe your house looks a little ratty. In such cases it’s smarter to do something about it. But then again, some people need to mind their own business.

Garbage

If your garbage is in the can and on the street where it belongs then cool. But if you have garbage all over your lawn then yeah, it can be a problem.

Guests

People get suspicious when they see a large number of guests coming in and out of your home. Unless you’re running a business, you might create a stir you didn’t intend.

Shrubbery/Trees

Oy, yet another thing that people war about that’s just plain silly. The thing is, if someone’s tree or shrub hangs onto your yard, you can legally trim it.

Flags

A ‘live and let live’ policy is usually best in this case, since everyone gets to decide who they follow and who they don’t.

Personal reasons

This is a wide-open subject that’s dangerous to contemplate since a person could have an issue with another person for no good reason. If so, then it’s best to squash it or just ignore the ignorant neighbor if possible.

Vehicles

Cars that run and cars that don’t run are very different when they’re sitting in your driveway. Neighbors tend to frown on cars that don’t ever move, and also leak fluids on your driveway.

Curb appeal

Property values are a very real thing, and if your home doesn’t have the desired curb appeal it can affect other homes. Some people are very sensitive about this.

Family feuds

If a family feuds with another family down the block, well, things can happen. This isn’t the same as the Hatfields vs. McCoy’s…at least one can hope it isn’t.

Illicit activities

If you’re a drug dealer or are doing something shady then you can bet that at least one nosy neighbor is going to notice. If you’re not and someone accuses you of this then it’s possible you live next to a very paranoid person.
