Deal With Those Mommy Days When You Feel Like Running Away

Some days the stress of being a mommy makes you feel like running away.  It is understandable.  Being a mommy means that you are constantly taking care of other’s needs before your own and you get very little appreciation for doing so.  What makes those days worse is adding guilt on top of mommy stress.  Don’t feel guilty for wanting to run away.  Accept that you are just having a hard day and do what you can to get back on track so you can be your normal, happy self.

When you feel like running away, that is a sign that you need to take a break.  Sometimes the kind of break you want isn’t possible.  After all, how many of us can twinkle our nose and go on a cruise for a week without our children?  But what you can do is get your children occupied and sit down with a cup of tea and a good book for a little while, or you can hop on the internet and do a little online shopping to unwind.  It doesn’t really matter what you do to unwind while you are taking a break; what matters is that you take the time to catch an alone moment when you are feeling like running away.

Taking care of yourself is great prevention against that feel like running away moment.  I know it is hard when you have either toddlers hanging on to your legs or teenagers stomping on your heart but one of the best things you can do is take care of yourself.  Make sure you are getting enough sleep and eating properly.  Exercising regularly is also a great way to feel happier as a mom.  Meet your girlfriends for lunch or a shopping day on occasion.  When you are happy and well rounded, your children will be too.
