Some people are extremely good at keeping secrets (not something I am guilty of in the least) and others are, well, not so good at it (that would be me). Unfortunately, becoming pregnant is one of those instances in which most people want to keep it a secret, at least until they begin the second trimester and the risk of miscarriage decreases significantly or until they head to the doctor for the first time to ensure that all is well. If you are pregnant – whether you are dying to tell everyone or you’re enjoying your private secret for the time being – you can spend your time working on the perfect way to finally share the good news in a creative, memorable way.
A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words
Use a picture to announce your pregnancy. There are so many good ways you can spill your pregnancy secrets with your camera. Take a picture of you and your husband holding your ultrasound photo. If you have a child already, create to frames that have the numbers one and two in them and take a family phone. Have your child hold the frame containing the number one and you hold the frame with the number two. If you want to give everyone a good laugh, have a trusted friend or relative take a photo of your husband standing outside the bathroom door with a big smile with you leaning over the toilet in the background.
A Token of Your Love
One way to share the news, especially with grandparents and aunts and uncles-to-be, is to give everyone a little token of the new love of their lives. At the next family gathering, provide your parents with little gifts they can open. Put a little bib or frame that says, “I love my grandma/grandpa” or a coffee mug with the words, “The best parents get promoted to grandparents” or something of that nature. The look on their faces will be priceless.
Use Your Children
We all have children for a reason, right? Whether it is to love them endlessly or breed them for future grandchildren or to have an extra set of hands to help with the laundry and the dishes – joking, of course – there’s no harm in using your older child to help announce pregnancy secrets. Buy your little one a shirt or onesie that says, “Only Child: Expiring 1-2-3” and insert your estimated due date. You can also buy your only child a shirt that says, “Big Sister/Brother” and let him/her wear it to the next family gathering while waiting for everyone to notice.
