It’s that time of year again; children hate it and parents count down the days for months. That’s right, it’s time to start thinking about sending the little ones back to school! Parents, calm down, please. I know you’re excited, but it’s okay to take a deep breath and relax. Now that it’s time to get the kids ready for their new year in school, it’s also time to start making some changes around the house to ease them back into a school routine to avoid the melt down that will occur the first day of school otherwise. Here are a few simple tips to help you get your little ones ready for a new year of school.
Start a School Year Bedtime Routine
Your kids probably spent the summer staying up late and sleeping in during the day. Now it’s time to ease them back into a reasonable schedule. Start about two weeks before school. Start making them go to bed 20 minutes earlier every three to four nights until they are going to bed at their bedtime.
Wake Them Up
No more sleeping in! Start waking them up 20 minutes earlier each morning every three to four mornings until they are getting up at the time they need to get up for school.
Start a Pre-Bedtime Routine
If the kids are bad about getting ready in the morning, start making them prepare for the following day the night before, even during the last few weeks of summer. Is your little one going to spend the night with a friend the next day? Make him or her pack her bag the night before like they would their back packs for school. It will help get them back into school mode, and it will make mornings far less stressful and chaotic.
