At some point we all find ourselves in a style rut. What I mean is this; for a while we rock a certain look and suddenly wake up one day on the cusp of a major life change and realize that what looked amazing yesterday suddenly makes us feel too young, too old, too trendy, or too something else. Perhaps you’re a new mom and you feel that your old clothes look too trendy or young or you’re like me and you’re about to enter into a new decade of your life and you’ve realized that being trendy and fashionable is less important than being timeless and elegant. Whatever the reason for your style rut and decision to change, you should know where to look for new style inspiration.
From Paris, With Love
The French women know what looks good. If you want inspiration to help you change your style, check out what they wear. They simply know what looks good, how to wear it and how to rock it. French women love to age. They don’t think of it as a bad thing. They don’t fill their faces with injections or try to stop the clock. They embrace age and style; the French know how to look elegant at any age.
Don’t be Too Revealing
It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you work or how many kids you have; if you know your legs/arms/décolleté look amazing, show them off. The key here is to show off only one of those at a time. This isn’t news, by the way, but it is good fashion advice. Showing off your legs? Cover your chest and arms. Showing off your killer arms? Go with something form fitting and knee-length.
When in Doubt
It is always, always better to be a little overdressed than it is to be underdressed. When in doubt, think timeless. There is nothing wrong with wearing a classic wrap dress, high-waist trousers with a blouse and a pair of killer heels to virtually any occasion. Look to old-world celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O. for a little style inspiration when it comes to choosing timeless pieces.
