The Most Efficient Way to Set Goals

Few people in life are as happy as they want to be. You may not even know you aren’t as happy as you could be. A few years ago, I didn’t know I wasn’t as happy as I could be. I thought I had it all; a good job, a husband I am crazy about, a house, luxury vehicles, the ability to travel wherever, whenever we wanted, and a group of friends and family that completely rock. I didn’t realize at the time that while I liked my job, I didn’t love it, and while I was happy with my life, I would be happier when my husband and I decided to have kids. Now, I can’t imagine being happier. I have the career I want – and I get to work from home so I can be with our two kids – and everything is better than good.

If you want to make some positive changes in your life, there are a few things you need to do. It’s like making a business plan for your life. It may sound a little far-fetched, but believe me when I say it works.  Here’s how to set goals.

Make a Plan

Sit down and envision your life in six months, one year, five year, etc. Write down exactly what you want at that time and what you need to do to make it happen. Refer to that list every single day.

Go Big or Go Home

Too many people make small goals for themselves because they don’t think they can achieve their big goals. However, when you dream big, your brain uses whatever resources it can to motivate you to get things done. You can make it happen by dreaming big and acting big.

Don’t Make it About Stuff

Sure, stuff is nice, but when it comes down to it, it’s not what’s important. Rather than dreaming big enough to park a brand new Mercedes in your garage, dream to have financial freedom to do what you please. I can tell you from experience that while I am a lover of stuff – and high maintenance to boot – those things are so much less important than financial freedom. In fact, the more money I have, the less I want to spend it on frivolous stuff and simply invest it wisely. Stuff doesn’t matter as much when you can easily afford it.
