Having a midlife crisis is not something any of us wish to go through or plan on happening to us. But it could. Having a midlife crisis is a very common thing for those that find themselves in their late 40s or early 50s. Their children have usually left home around this time, they may be bored in their career or other factors can help to bring a midlife crisis on.
So, how do you avoid this phase so many people go through? There are several things that you can do. A lot of times when people go through that terrible phase it is because they feel discontent in their lives. So, be purposeful about recognizing all the good things in your life and be grateful for them. Try to be optimistic and look at the sunny side of things. Reminding yourself of your blessings and how good of a life you have can help you to avoid having a midlife crisis.
On the flip side, there is nothing wrong with shaking things up if you do it without threatening all that is near and dear to your heart. You don’t want to make any rash decisions like leaving your spouse or a job you have put many years into. But if you want to go on a cruise or you have always dreamed of having a sports car and your budget allows for that, then why not? You only life life once and you deserve to enjoy it.
There are small changes you can make if you find yourself bored that are very safe and don’t threaten what you have spent years investing in. Change your hair color or try a new cut. Try a new style of clothing. Join a book club or country club. The ideas are many and it all depends on what suits your style.
