A List Of Essentials That Make A Perfect Nightstand

If we are not careful, our nightstand can easily become cluttered and an eyesore, making the whole room feel like a mess.  But a nightstand is for the very purpose of holding the things that we need at bedtime or through the night.  Everyone is going to have a list of essentials that is different but we will approach this from a general angle.

First and foremost, you want a lamp on your nightstand.  A lamp is handy for when you are laying in bed reading or doing something that requires close up lighting.

Next on the nightstand, a book or magazine you are currently reading.  Did you know that reading before bedtime is proven to help you get a better night’s rest?  Maybe you don’t enjoy reading.  If not, give a book of puzzles a try.  Something light such as these activities can help your body get in the mode for rest.

A fresh glass of water is a must for most people to have on their nightstand.  It certainly beats having to get up and get a drink during then night when you don’t want to leave your cozy, warm bed.

Something decorative such as a framed picture or a vase of flowers is a nice choice for a nightstand.  It doesn’t have to be elaborate or overly big.  Something small and simple is a nice touch that will make you smile when you look at it.

Now, let’s talk about the clutter that you want to keep off of your nightstand.  This is basically anything else.  Any lotions or medications should not be stored on the top of your nightstand.  Kleenexes and any kind of stray papers need to be stored elsewhere.  If the things that are cluttering your nightstand are something that you use daily, store them in one of the nightstand drawers or in a basket close by.
