Running through the airport between flights is a bit stressful if you don’t have several hours to spend in between your flights. When you haven’t much time, you have to choose between finding your gate and getting something to eat, and you’re just hoping you have time for both. Short layovers are nice because you aren’t delayed getting to your destination, but they’re also a bit of a hassle in terms of eating well when you’re out and about. One thing I notice in most airports is the presence of a Quiznos. This means that occasionally I have no choice but to stop here and get a sandwich I know is going to make me feel guilty later, but it is sometimes that or starve since other fast food options are not for me, not all airports have Starbucks (that’s annoying) and there isn’t always time for takeout elsewhere. So, when all you have to choose from in the airport is Quiznos, rest assured that there is a little bit of nutrition to be found on the menu. Here’s what to order.
Veggie Guacamole
This sub has fewer than 500 calories, which makes it much healthier than some of the other alternatives. You have to be careful to only order half, and you have to have it the way that it’s advertised. Once you start adding condiments and extras, you begin piling on the calories and lowering the nutrition level found in any Quiznos sub.
Basil Pesto Chicken Wrap
It’s almost always better to go for a wrap than it is a sandwich, and this is no exception. Found on the under 500 calorie menu, you’ll find yourself fulfilled and happy after eating this delicious sandwich and you won’t feel guilty. Just remember; add as many veggies as you want to this, but steer clear of condiments and dressings so many people are so fond of.
Apple Harvest Chicken Salad
It has to be as advertised if you want this salad to keep its reputation as a salad with fewer than 500 calories. You’ll want to add the acai vinaigrette to the salad and forgo the other dressings since they will add a number of calories. And ask for the dressing on the side so you can divvy it out as you feel appropriate and to keep the calorie count down.
