We know, we know; Christmas is only a few days away, but that makes this the perfect time to discuss holiday foods. Especially holiday foods that won’t leave you feeling bloated and fat (didn’t know that kind of holiday food existed, did you?). It’s hard not to gain weight this time of year with all the cookies and the treats and the decadence of just about everything, but it is possible not to. Here are three holiday foods you shouldn’t feel guilty loading up on in the next few days.
Cheese
Believe it or not, eating fatty cheese is actually good for you. Why? Because fatty cheese is packed with protein and protein helps fill you up fast. When you overindulge in this tasty holiday food, you’re less likely to overindulge in the less than good for you holiday foods like cake and pie and stuffing.
Shrimp
Maybe it’s not something you have at your Christmas dinner, but it’s probably something you see served at the holiday parties you’re attending this time of year. Load up on that decadent shrimp cocktail. It’s low-calorie, low-fat and actually good for you. Not to mention, it’s delicious. Like cheese, it’s filled with protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for your body.
Spinach and Artichoke Dip
Here’s the kicker with this one; it’s delicious but it’s also healthy and very good for you. It’s got plenty of protein, which makes eating it good for filling you up. The catch is that what you use to dip into it is not so good for you. Crackers are filled with carbohydrates and other unhealthy things that will cause you to gain weight during the holidays. Instead of dipping those, try dipping healthy vegetables to help fill you up faster, with fewer calories and with fewer unhealthy bites.
