Strep throat is no fun for anyone. The inability to swallow without pain the feeling of fatigue and of tiredness that comes with having strep throat is often enough to have you down and out. While most people head straight to the doctor for a prescription, some people choose to forgo the antibiotic and work on ridding themselves of strep throat at home.
Use a Humidifier
Since the only way to really get rid of strep throat is with antibiotics, you aren’t going to get rid of it with a humidifier. However, you can use a humidifier to help cure your symptoms a bit faster. The moisture in the air is going to keep your throat moist and keep it from hurting as much.
Drink Water
Water is going to keep you swallowing and prevent you from becoming dehydrated, which can exacerbate strep throat symptoms. By drinking plenty of water and tea, you’re going to ease the pain from your sore throat and help you feel better sooner.
Sleep
It’s not always easy to sleep when you don’t feel well because it’s difficult to get comfortable. However, your body needs rest to help you increase your immune system. The more you sleep, the better you will feel. If you can’t sleep, at least you can rest to help you feel better.
Take Over-the-Counter Meds
Over-the-counter medication can help you relieve the pain from a sore throat and help you feel better faster. It’s not going to prevent your strep throat from returning, but it is going to help you feel better faster. It will also help to reduce your fever and make you feel less pain from that.
Replace your Toothbrush
It’s not going to help you get rid of strep throat, but it is going to help you keep it from returning. Without antibiotics, you risk the chance of strep throat returning. The best thing you can do is replace your toothbrush as soon as you begin to feel better to help prevent this and make it possible for you to feel better longer.
