Determining the best fast food burgers is tough since there are a lot of options out there. But plenty of people are willing to give their two cents and vote for their favorites. Unfortunately, that only makes a decision harder to make.

Checkers: Checkerburger
Many people would gladly state that this is one of the best fast food burgers ever created. Of course, a lot of places claim this, and nostalgia plus comfortability can create a lot of false positives. It’s a good burger, but the ingredients are kind of plain and don’t do a lot for many burger aficionados.

McDonald’s: Quarter Pounder
Familiarity breeds a lot of things, but contempt is something that a lot of fans of the quarter-pounder aren’t going to admit to. Even those who despise McDonald’s would select a grease bomb when they’re hungry enough. But when the grease is sometimes more substantial than the burger, it’s tough to get that excited.

Burger King: Whopper
Along with McDonald’s, this fellow burger titan, and one of the supposed best fast food burgers in existence, is a mild step up from the golden arches. Having it your way does help, and there is more meat to this burger. For that reason, the whopper is superior, not the best, but superior.

Shake Shack: ShackBurger
Being able to double up on toppings is the great mark of the best fast food burgers when it’s available. But what’s unfortunate is that doubling up on a burger this small feels, well, kind of pointless.

Smashburger: Classic Smash
It’s not a great burger, but it’s decent. It’s a bit fluffy and a little sweet, strangely enough. But as the best fast food burgers go, it’s solid enough to stand out and above many of the rest.

Carl’s Jr.: Original Six Dollar Thickburger
There’s not a lot of bad stuff to say about Carl’s Jr. since they make solid burgers that will fill you up. But when looking for the best fast food burger in the country, well, it’s not much to write home about. The toppings and the construction are great, but the wow factor is somehow absent.

Fatburger: Medium Fatburger
The name of this establishment feels like a promise and a lot to hang on the shoulders of a franchise at the same time. Unfortunately, giving such a title to the best fast food burgers of all time is kind of counterproductive and genius at the same time. It’s worth the name though, especially if one takes it as satire, since the literal fat, beefy slice of meat one gets is pretty good.

Jack in the Box: Jumbo Jack
Jack in the Box is a place that a person either hates or loves, for one reason or another. The Jumbo Jack is, essentially, the burger that has kept the franchise afloat in a lot of ways. It’s reliable, it’s stable, and yet it’s still what works for a lot of people.

Steak n’ Shake: Original Steakburger
So this burger is a bit more upscale than many others. Those who will argue about the best fast food burgers will likely claim that this is next level when it comes to burgers, and they’re not entirely wrong. After all, their burgers are made from beef brisket and chuck, so they do have a leg up on the patties that most places sell.

Wendy’s: Big Bacon Burger
Some people love Wendy’s and some people can’t stand the square burgers for their own reasons. But the overall taste has kept many people going back for years. Like it or not, Wendy’s does know how to inject taste into their burgers.

A&W: Papa Burger
To many people, A&W says classic since it’s nostalgic and the quality of their hamburgers has become legendary. The fact remains that these burgers are balanced, big, and just messy enough to bring back memories of childhood. Yeah, that’s the stuff.

Fuddruckers: Customizable hamburger
It’s the word “customizable” that’s exciting to a lot of burger lovers since the imagination runs wild in this case. They’re not exactly the best burger in the world, but they do satisfy in a lot of ways. But cheese sauce instead of actual cheese? Yeah, that’s one minus out of a lot of positives.

Culver’s: Original ButterBurger
You can almost feel your arteries quiver with this one, and like most people, you’ll love it no matter what happens. From the buttered, toasted bun to the customizable toppings, to the flavorful burger, this is a good bite with EVERY bite.

Whataburger: Whataburger
The Texans know meat, and Whataburger has obviously banked on that fact. This is where the conventional wisdom of the Texans comes into play since this is one great burger.

Five Guys: Hamburger
Two patties on a toasted bun with your choice of toppings. It’s simple, it’s attractive, and thankfully, the taste backs it all up. Plenty of people would agree that even if this place isn’t as big as the burger titans, it’s superior in a few ways that matter.

In-N-Out Burger: Hamburger
Somehow, the In-N-Out burger has remained dominant for a while now, despite being so insanely simple. The fact that they’re regionally sourced impresses a lot of people, but overall, it’s just a good burger that’s nothing special, which makes it insanely special.
