I use ground turkey at home in place of ground beef all the time – and no one knows. We recently had friends over who make fun of ground turkey, served them my husband’s amazing homemade pineapple burgers and listened to them rave about dinner for the longest time. When we told them that it was not ground beef but ground turkey, they didn’t believe us. And then they asked for the recipe and now they are in love with this simple ground turkey burger recipe that I’m pretty sure my husband borrowed from someone on the Food Network on a Saturday afternoon show at one point. The recipe is simple and delicious, and it’s something that we can’t wait to share with you. It’s simple, it’s amazing and no one is going to have any idea that it is actually a healthy dish.
All you have to do is take ground turkey, place it in a bowl and mix it with some chopped onion, some garlic and wine seasoning, a splash of Worcestershire sauce and some salt and pepper for taste. Mix this all together very well. Form the meat into very thin burgers. Next, place a slice of pineapple on top of half the burgers and then cover them with the other halves sans pineapple to make a sort of pineapple sandwich with turkey burger meat. You will then grill the burgers until they are completely cooked through. We love to serve them on gourmet rolls from the deli. Instead of the usual toppings, we toss a few red and green bell peppers on the grill and then add a little mustard to the mix. It is so good and so amazing – no one is going to believe that this flavorful burger is made from turkey and not beef; but they’ll all love it.
