The Powerball jackpot has risen to an estimated $685 million after there were no winners in the Christmas Day grand prize drawing.

According to Powerball, there have only been three jackpots won on Christmas Day. The last time it happened was Dec. 25, 2013, when a ticket in Missouri won a $71.5 million jackpot.

No tickets in Monday’s drawing matched all six numbers: white balls 5, 12, 20, 24, 29 and red Powerball 4, with a Power Play multiplier of 2x.

Two tickets — sold in Colorado and Georgia — matched all five white balls and increased the $1 million prize to $2 million with the Power Play add-on for $1, according to the Powerball website.

Three tickets — sold in California, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania — matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes. Sixteen tickets won $100,000 prizes and 45 tickets won $50,000 prizes.

The current jackpot is the fourth to climb above a half-billion dollars this year, according to Powerball.

The Powerball jackpot was previously won on Oct. 11, by a ticket in California that won a grand prize worth $1.765 billion. Since then, there have been 32 drawings without a grand prize winner. Before that, the last jackpot was won on July 19, worth $1.08 billion.

Powerball said it was the first time in the game’s history that back-to-back jackpot cycles reached $1 billion. The largest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion won on Nov. 7, 2022.

The current $685 million jackpot has an estimated cash value of $344.7 million, according to Powerball. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, but the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.9. Wednesday’s drawing will be broadcast at 10:59 p.m. EST from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee, Fla.

The multi-state lottery game, known for its odds and the excitement it generates, has made headlines with not only its soaring grand prizes but also with its contributions to various state educational and social programs, which benefit from the proceeds of ticket sales. As the Powerball continues to evolve, with adjustments in the game format and prize structure aimed at keeping the interest high, lottery enthusiasts eagerly await each drawing, dreaming of the moment their numbers might match those that are announced.
