10 States With The Highest Income Taxes

If you live in one of the 10 states with the highest income taxes then you know what it feels like to be pinched for green. It could be worse, right?

California

It’s become kind of difficult to live in California these days. But if you manage to earn more than a million per year, 13.3% shouldn’t be too vicious.

Hawaii

This state has been expensive to live for quite some time. But even with that in mind, 11% is kind of rough.

New York

You would almost think that this state would be at the top of the list since it is a place where people find it hard to afford just about anything. But at 10.9% the income tax isn’t the worst. It’s not the best either.

New Jersey

It’s very easy to say that a lot of people disregard New Jersey. But 10.75% is tough to ignore or disregard.

Oregon

It’s tough enough to pay taxes when you have a low income. But those making $125,000 or over have to deal with 9.9%, which isn’t tough but also isn’t that great.

Minnesota

A rate of 9.85% isn’t the end of the world, but it’s tough to deal with. Of course, that’s after you make well over $100k.

District of Columbia

One can bet that anywhere the cost of living is high, income tax isn’t too far behind. And yeah, DC is an expensive city, even if you need to make $1 million to experience it.

Vermont

$200k and up is the magic number for folks in this state as they’ll be taxed roughly 8.75%. That’s not too bad, right?

Iowa

Things in the heartland are kind of varied since some states are better than others for income tax. At 8.53% it’s not that great, but again, it’s not that bad.
