How to Make Your Frugal Spring Cleaning Checklist

spring cleaning

Does anyone really consider the act of spring cleaning an expensive one? My husband does, and he always has. It’s because there is something about spring that not only inspires us to get even more organized (it’s hard not to be organized married to me) but also that makes me shop and shop and shop for new gardening equipment, flowers, mulch and just about all kinds of home décor. And this it’s even worse for us. We have a new house that’s a lot bigger and has a much larger piece of land than our old house. The previous owners cleared just enough to build the house so we have more than an acre of land that requires a great deal of clearing and landscaping, and that has made our spring cleaning list a little bit more than just ‘kind of’ expensive. It’s downright depressing in terms of price. However, not everyone is faced with the same forest growing in their front yard and a homeowner’s association just leaving friendly reminders to go ahead and get started on that cleaning up on your front door a few times a month. Now that spring is here and we are ready to get started on that, the list is growing. Fortunately, you have a lot less to worry about than us, so we have a few tips that will make your spring cleaning list a little bit more frugal.

Get Rid of Clutter

It’s actually free to get rid of things. You can do this and make your list as frugal as possible, and you might even be able to make a little money. Go through your things and make a pile of things in good condition you can sell, and you can actually make money off your cleaning.

Use Vinegar and Lemon Juice Mixed with Water

Instead of buying thousands of cleaning wipes made by some expensive name brand, make this mixture. You can clean your fans, your floors, your baseboards, your walls and anything else you want with this and you already have this stuff in the house.

Clean the Bathrooms

With 1 tablespoon of dish soap, a half cup of baking soda and a little vinegar, you can make a cleaner that will crack down on the worst stuff your bathrooms have to hide. This means your tubs, showers, toilets, counters, grout and everything in between. And it’s practically free since you have all this stuff at home already.

There are so many ways to spring clean your house, but you don’t have to go with the most expensive stuff to get the job done. You can do it yourself with things you have on hand already and clean your house free of charge; mostly.
