Keeping Up With The Joneses Isn’t Healthy And Robs You Of Contentment

Keeping up with the Joneses is a syndrome we have fallen into.  We are so busy keeping our eyes on what our neighbors, friend or family members have that we are robbing ourselves of the peace and joy we would have if we would just stay focused on what we have.

Keeping up with the Joneses will cause you to become resentful that you are in the situation you are in instead of the position the Joneses are in.  Instead of looking outward to what others have we should strive to look inward and appreciate all that we have.

Keeping up with the Joneses will cause you to battle jealousy which is bad for your emotional health. Being jealous isn’t a fun feeling to have.  We start disliking others for what they have, which isn’t fair.  We get ourselves overly focused on the individuals we are jealous of and don’t concentrate enough on our own blessings.

Keeping up with the Joneses causes you to have an unreal perception of others.  So what if those Joneses just got back from their second cruise this year?  Who says that they paid for it on their own?  Maybe their Great Aunt Helga paid for it or maybe they charged it to their credit card.  Remember, everything is not what it seems.  You don’t know if they are doing as well as it looks like they are.  They could be in debt up to their eyeballs!

Keeping up with the Joneses will get you into financial trouble.  If you start trying to keep up with those that intimidate you are going to get in financial trouble.  Any time we try to live above our means this happens.  You won’t enjoy anything you have if you have purchased it as part of a race rather than as an item you want.

Let those Joneses do their thing and you do yours.
