Where was Gold first discovered in the West?

The discovery of gold in California in 1848 had the immediate effect of bringing about an instant influx of settlers to the West. This era was termed the era of the gold rush, and it signified the migration of hordes of people looking to cash in on the new discovery.
According to reports, more than 175,000 people moved to the West looking to become super-rich quickly but as it is with everything else, some were luckier than others. It didn’t help that things were quite expensive in mining towns.
