Why Date Night is Important for Parents

In my life I’ve come across three types of parents; the first type understands the importance of date night when you have kids. The second type thinks parents who leave their kids with a sitter to go out, have dinner, wine, and maybe even some dancing or even go on a trip are bad parents who don’t love their kids. The third type are the second type who have finally gotten away from their kids for the first time in months or years and suddenly understand how important date night is to their marriage. I love my kids; but I love being away from them with my husband. I spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with these little lovebugs, and I am not about to tell you I don’t count down the hours until I can enjoy my husband without worrying one of them will interrupt, wake up, want something, or walk by smelling anything but pretty, which makes dinner oh-so romantic.

Date night is important. It’s not just important because it keeps you close as a couple, it’s important because it keeps you sane. A few hours of conversing with adults, not getting any spit up or snot on your clothes and never once having to change a diaper is a great thing for a mom and dad’s confidence level, and personal feelings of importance.

According the relationship and marriage experts, spending time together away from the kids is just as important as spending time with your kids. The reason for this is that you need to show your kids what a good marriage looks like, and you need to connect with your partner. Your marriage will not survive all that diaper changing if you don’t take time out for yourselves. It’s not easy leaving your kids at home, especially if you’re a new parent, but it gets easier and it’s necessary. I can assure you that when I wake up the morning after date night, I’m a better mom for missing my kids and appreciating their presence.
