Three Reasons to Elope for Your Wedding Day

To have a big wedding and pay thousands of dollars to invite your closest friends and family and 150 other people you don’t really know or even like all that much or to elope? It’s a question a lot of couples ask. Of course, it’s wonderful to share your big day with the people that matter most to you, but when things start getting out of hand (mom-in-law is inviting 30 people she works with whom you’ve never met, your coworkers all want to come, your husband-to-be is being asked to invite his 45 third cousins from Wisconsin and your mom wants to invite everyone from the country club) you might start to consider an elopement. Here are a few reasons why choosing to elope isn’t the worst.

It’s All About You

If you want your wedding day to be truly all about you, do it alone. When you elope, it’s just the two of you. You’re not focused on making your rounds to have polite small talk with a bunch of virtual strangers and only a few minutes with your real loved ones. You’re focused on you. You’re focused on being married to one another, being together, and starting your new life. It’s very romantic.

Less Stress

You won’t be worried about all the final details, keeping everyone happy, and dealing with all the stress that comes with wedding planning. You don’t have to hurt anyone’s feelings by not including them in the wedding party or not seating them at a good table…it’s a lot less stressful.

You Can Still Throw a Party

When you get home, if you still want to celebrate with everyone, have a cocktail party at home. Invite your friends and family, put on some good music, dance, eat, drink, and be married. It’s a win-win situation if you don’t mind sharing your vows with only one another.
