Remember This When You Have a Bad Day

Bad days happen to good people. The best of us find out from time to time that the world does not always work the way we want it to. Our kids act up at the same time, errands need to be run, there’s not enough time to get everything done, people want more from us than we have time to give, and we can’t catch a break. When I have a bad day, I like to remember these things to help improve my day so that the rest of it doesn’t continue to be less than perfect for me.

The Past is Not the Future

Quite frankly, there is no such thing as bad luck. If you are having a bad day and you start to think that you are doomed to have bad days forever, it’s because your mind is creating a pattern that does not actually exist. When you’re in a bad mood it is easy to remember other bad days and forget the hundreds of good ones in between.

Don’t Make Prophecies

If you spend time thinking that the rest of your day will be as bad at the beginning of your day, it will be. Your negative attitude is sure to create more problems for you throughout the day, which means it will be just as negative. Think that your day will get better.

Rationalize Your Day

Unless your day is bad for a life-changing reason, such as a death or an illness, you won’t even remember what you were upset about in a week. You might not even remember what you were upset about tomorrow. Remembering that will put your day into perspective and remind you that your bad run is very, very temporary and not at all something you should spend any amount of time dwelling on.
