What You Should Really Do When It Is Your Toddler’s Naptime

Naptime is a magical time for mommies around the world.  The house gets quiet and all is well.  Mommies feel like they can attack their to do list with a vengeance and get a lot accomplished during those few precious hours that their child is sleeping.  But there is something even more important than taking care of chores during naptime.  It’s taking care of yourself.

When you have a toddler, you are absolutely run ragged from chasing after them all day long.  When naptime comes, you should take that time to recharge and refuel yourself so that you can go on with the rest of your day.  It is very tempting to clean, do laundry, make business calls and the thousand other things that need to be done while your child is sleeping. But you will be a much better mommy if you take that time for yourself.

If you are tired, lay down and catch a few minutes of shut-eye yourself.  Mommies are often up late and up again before dawn and always behind on their sleep.  Use naptime to even out that equation for yourself.  A well rested mommy is a happy mommy.

If you don’t feel tired, use the time to call a girlfriend and chat.  Mommies tend to feel isolated at times when their world shrinks to everything toddler related.  Connecting with a friend will do you good.  There are other ways that you can recharge and refuel.  Sit in the sun with an iced tea and a good book.  Do some online shopping you cannot do when your toddler is awake.  Walk on the treadmill or pop in an exercise dvd.  Whatever you do, make it a choice that is all about you and taking care of yourself for that short slot of time you get to yourself during the day.

Take full advantage of naptime and you will find you both feel better afterward.
