The Advantages Of Marrying Your Polar Opposite

A marriage when you marry your polar opposite sounds like a recipe for trouble, but I am here to tell you that it can work.  How do I know?  I have been happily married to my husband for almost a decade and we are still very much in love.  I still look forward to seeing him at the end of the work day.  I still tell him regularly that he is my favorite person and I mean it.  He still shows his love for me in all the sweet, caring ways he always has.  People regularly comment on how happy we are and how much in love we are.

Yet, we are not all that similar.  Having a lot in common is not the secret to our success.  Our marriage involves being the polar opposite of one another.  My husband is very laid back.  I tend to stress over every detail.  He is a pack rat and never notices clutter.  I live by the ‘use it or lose it’ strategy and cannot rest until our home is in order.  He dresses for comfort, I dress for style.  He never plans anything and I have a schedule and plan for every day. You get the picture.  Yet, being married to our polar opposite works in our marriage.  It brings much needed balance.  He helps me to be more relaxed and spontaneous and I help him learn that plans are not evil things that must be avoided.  I buy him attractive clothing and he talks me out of wearing heels when I am going to be on my feet for hours.  Being married to your polar opposite can be a great thing that lends balance to your marriage.

We have learned that as long as we agree on the core values in life, everything else will fall into place.
