Redundancy is the Biggest Time Killer and Will Lose You Money

meeting

Do you have any idea how much time you waste during the day? I know I waste plenty of my own, but I’m willing to admit there are so many redundant things that happen throughout the course of my workday at home that kill time and cause me to lose money in the process. And it’s not just me. Listening to others talk about their day, I’m often left wondering how it is so much time is wasted and so much money is lost yet people have no concept of how this keeps happening. It’s redundancy. We do the same things over and over again without even realizing it, and it’s unproductive. Here are a few of the biggest time-wasting efforts we put into our day that make us lose money, time, and motivation. The first step is, after all, admitting we have a problem.

Pointless Meetings

At the end of the day, we don’t really care what 20 people think of an idea as long as we like our idea. So why do we bother with meetings that discuss things, get ideas and then promptly get ignored when we could have just sent out an email in the first place? It’s a huge waste of time for all involved.

Conference Calls

For the most part, conference calls are a waste of time when you could have just used emails. Especially when everyone turns around and sends out recaps of the call repeatedly afterward. What’s the point? The point is that no one is actually working right now, which means that everyone is wasting time and losing money.

Checking Emails and Responding to Texts

Unless it’s so important it cannot wait, make it wait. Do you have any idea how often we grab our phones to check an email that just came through and end up sitting back in our seats and checking Facebook and Instagram and then sending texts? It’s one of the most redundant things we do all day long. Put that phone away and make it a habit to only check emails once in the morning and once in the afternoon, or once an hour or whatever. This is going to make your day much more productive.
