It’s disturbing to think that there are far more than 10 statues that have been removed because of history. This shows a very narrow view of the world no matter the reason for pulling said statues down.
Vladimir Lenin

There are a lot of personal feelings about the statues of Lenin that have been removed. But since this movement became trendy, people don’t think too much about the past, and might not fully understand who Lenin was.
Confederate General Robert E. Lee

There are a lot of people who don’t want to remember what the Confederacy did or stood for. But thanks to BLM and several other like-minded individuals, history is more harmful than many realized.
South African Statesman Cecil Rhodes

Many people don’t bother to understand the context behind one stature or another. Too many statues have been removed or defaced due to ignorance of a past that many see as little more than harmful.
Canadian Prime Minister John A. Macdonald

Some statues might not be as positive as some would like to think. But defacing and removing parts of history is every bit as unwise as forgetting them. This shows a lack of respect and dignity that people mistakenly think is a show of integrity and justice.
Slave Trader Edward Colston

BLM made it clear that many statues offended them only a few years back, and did what they could to make this as loud as possible. Thankfully, this statue, though defaced, was placed in a museum where someone could possibly learn from the mistakes of this man, rather than bury them like a dirty secret.
Conquistador Sebastian de Belalcazar

People see the history they want to see, not the history that was. Belalcazar might have been a horrible person, but no more horrible than any other conqueror. Oh yes, I said it.
Abolitionist Victor Schoelcher

So it sounds as though Victor didn’t support abolition in his youth, which is why it was deemed okay to topple his statues even after he did so much to secure the abolition of slavery in France. Past sins have a way of erasing great deeds in the minds of the ignorant.
King Leopold II of Belgium

His statues were toppled or defaced due to crimes committed in his name…just picture that. It might have been wiser to place his likeness in a museum as one of history’s failures, rather than throwing a tantrum to try to erase him.
Buddhas of Bamiyan

All one has to say is: Taliban, and a lot of people might understand why this is so skewed. Anything that offends Islam is bound for removal.

Thanks to the Code Noir, Colbert’s statues were targeted for defacement and removal. It’s not that he needs glorifying, but remembering how horrible he was would go a long way to not repeating this horrid history.
