Nachos-1940
The original three ingredients were chips, cheese, and jalapenos. These days, this is a chip salad depending on who’s making it.

You might have thought this was a lot older. But as one of the fairly recently invented foods this is still a young ‘un.
Spaghetti Carbonara-1944
It does feel as though the evolution of this dish was born a lot earlier. But to think that any spaghetti dish is ‘recent’ is kind of tough.
Currywurst-1949
As invented foods go, this one almost feels like it might have been a daring move by a chef. Well, any move by a chef doing something new is daring, right?
Butter Chicken-1950s
Butter and chicken feel like one of the most commonly invented foods that should have been available a long time ago. After all, it’s not like the consumption of these foods is new.

There’s no doubt that the Mongols knew how to roast their meat. But it’s a question as to the depth of their culinary skills.

This thing looks like a huge mess. But then again, invented foods don’t always look that great initially, and some taste a lot better than they look.

This was designed to be a healthy change. But you’ve still got to wonder who thought watering down milk was a good idea.

It’s still debated where this was created and by who. But seeing as how it’s served in restaurants and frozen food aisles its popularity is cemented.
Banoffee Pie-1971
A couple of British chefs apparently thought they could tweak an American toffee pie recipe. Meh, maybe it’s pretty good.
Urumaki-1960s
Leave it to Americans to be squeamish about something. I’m kidding of course, or am I? But urumaki is essentially what helped the sushi craze to take hold.
Sticky Toffee Pudding-1960s
It sounds like something you’re going to be wearing while you’re eating it. But it does look pretty good.
Tiramisu-1960s
This feels like an older dish, right? But it didn’t come into existence, as it is, until the 60s.

Kebabs are well-known in several parts of the world. So why not take it to a different level?

This dish does feel like something that was started years ago but had to evolve. It’s still a great dish, even knowing that its history isn’t that long.

General Tso’s Chicken-1970s
It’s kind of funny to listen to people talk about what types of Asian-inspired foods are ancient recipes and which aren’t. What’s even funnier is the look on people’s faces when their knowledge base is shaken.
Pasta Primavera-1975
Anything to do with pasta feels like it should be laid at the feet of the Italians. But in all fairness, they created one of the strongest bases for the evolution of pasta dishes.

Some might argue that this dish was created long ago. But history now remembers this as a marketing ploy.

I do recall someone thinking that this was created by African-American people. But the truth is that it was created in Tawain.

Sushi has been on the rise in America since the 80s, and essentially, this is just a piece of salmon laid on top. If you make it more complicated than that, well, you need to remember what eating is all about.
Blended Iced Coffee-1980s
Seriously, I will not be drawn into a debate about coffee. But iced coffee is a relatively new invention, even if coffee is not.
