Five Different Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipes Your Kids Will Love

cookies

Making chocolate chip cookies with your kids is one of those memories that sticks with them for a lifetime. It’s the kind of memory kids take with them into adulthood and use to create even more memories of their own with their children. I know it is for me. Whether it was making my grandmother’s famous chocolate chip cookies (which I will share with you here) or helping my mom make hers, I remember sneaking bites of the dough and eating the cookies as soon as they came out of the oven when they were still warm and gooey. It’s one of those things that simply makes me smile. When I make cookies with my two older daughters – and eventually the twins when they are older – we have the best time. They love to help measure the ingredients and pour the chocolate chips into the batter (the more the merrier, right?) and they love to eat as many of the chocolate chips as they can when they think I’m not looking. I know every single time we make cookies together that they are going to remember this for the rest of their lives and I love that. I love that they are going to carry with them these simple memories and my presence for the rest of their lives and that they will one day do the same with their own kids. And with that said, we have five great chocolate chip cookie recipes for your kids that will make them very happy little bakers. We’ve also included some videos that might inspire you with their simplicity.

Grandma’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

My grandmother taught me this recipe and I know it backward and forward – and I have since I was 7 or 8. What you need:

1 stick shortening

¾ cup white sugar

¾ cup brown sugar

Place these three ingredients into a bowl and mix them well. Once these three ingredients are mixed well, add:

2 large eggs

1 tbsp. vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

Salt to taste

Mix all of these ingredients together until they are kind of runny. Then add 2 ¼ cups flour to the mix and stir well. The dough should be thick and almost impossible to stir by the time you are finished. You’ll then add as many semi-sweet morsels to the mix as you see fit. Some like them extra chocolately (my kids) and some like a little more cookie and a little less chocolate (me). Put them on a non-stick pan and bake the cookies for approximately 9 minutes at 350 degrees. Take them out, let them cool and dig in.

Simple Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is the simplest recipe you will ever encounter when it comes to making cookies. We love it because you get to use this recipe to make cookies that are delicious and fun, and you have to take about a minute out of your day to make it happen. All you need is the following:

1 cup peanut butter

1 cup sugar

1 egg

½ cup semisweet morsels

Before you mix your ingredients, go ahead and preheat your oven to 350 degrees. You’ll also want to line a baking sheet with parchment paper so that your cookies will come out perfectly formed. The simple part is just tossing all your ingredients into one bowl and mixing them together until it’s all smooth. Using about a tablespoon of dough, place little drops a few inches apart on your pan and then push them down so they flatten. I use the bottom of a cup for this. Bake your cookies for 7 minutes and then let them cool.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

To make these delicious cookies you will need the following:

2 sticks butter (softened, not melted)

1 cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)

1 cup white sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

Salt to taste

2 cups flour

2 ¾ cups rolled oats

2 cups chocolate chips

Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. Then mix your butter and sugars together before adding the eggs and vanilla, mixing and then adding the baking soda, baking powder and salt. Then you’ll add the rest of your ingredients, mix and then bake for 11 minutes. Cool and enjoy.

Double Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

We have no words for this cookie; it’s that good. So all we have are the instructions to make this batch of Heaven on a plate. You’ll need:

1 stick softened butter

½ cup brown sugar

½ cup white sugar

1 tsp vanilla

2 large eggs

1 tsp baking soda

Salt to taste

½ cup cocoa powder

2 cups flour

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix your butter and sugars together until they are soft and fluffy. Then add the vanilla and the eggs to the mix, stir and then add everything but the chocolate chips to the mix and mix until it’s all stirred. That’s when it’s time to mix your chocolate chips. Now, you have to put your batter inside your fridge for approximately 15 minutes to make it sticky so that it has the right consistency. You will then put the batter in small scoops on a non stick pan and bake them for 7 minutes. Remove them from the oven, let them cool and then dig in.

Oreo Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

If you don’t like to choose between an Oreo and a chocolate chip cookie, we have the perfect solution for you; the Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookie. Listen; you’re welcome. Here’s what you need and here’s what to do:

1 stick shortening

¾ brown sugar

¾ cup white sugar

2 eggs

1 tbsp vanilla

1 tsp baking soda

Salt to taste

2 ¼ cup flour

1 bag semi sweet chocolate chip morsels

Oreo cookies

Mix the first three ingredients until the dough is smooth, then add the eggs, vanilla, baking soda and salt and mix again. Then add the flour and mix. Then add the chocolate chips. Now, you will preheat your oven to 350 degrees and find a nonstick pan on which to get this party started. Mix your dough into one inch balls using your hands. Next, grab and Oreo. Place a ball of dough on top of the Oreo and one below it. Then smash the entire thing together. You’ll bake this for about 9 minutes, remove and let cool. You might definitely want a glass of milk to go with.
