Red Robin is a popular name in America, known for its burgers and casual dining experience. It is one of the most popular food franchises in the country and has the most exciting menu. But besides their food and beverages, Red Robin surprises with some facts as well, here are 15 such.
A Local Tavern/College Bar

Red Robin, now a casual dining restaurant, originally began as a local tavern in Seattle, Washington. A man named Samuel Caston started his tavern near the campus of the University of Washington in 1940. Later, when someone came with another ‘Sam’s’ restaurant, he named his outlet ‘Red Robin.’ Later, Gerry Kingen bought it in 1969 and launched their first franchise in 1979 in Yakima.
Hamburgers

Contrary to the name ‘Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews,’ burgers were never on their original menu. Since the outlet began as a bar, the food menu was limited. The options ranged from popcorn to wrapped sandwiches for quite a few years until they launched their first franchise.
Named After The Popular Song ‘Red Robin’

The restaurant ‘Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews’ got its name after the popular song “When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin’ Along.” Samuel Caston used to frequently sing the song as part of a barbershop quartet. Soon enough, his liking for the song inspired him to call the outlet Sam’s Red Robin Tavern.
The Original Location No Longer Exists

The original location/ first outlet of Red Robin, the ‘Sam’s Tavern’, no longer exists. It was located on the corner of Furhman and Eastlake Avenues and served last in March 2010.
