10 Reasons RVs Are Not Worth the Trouble

It’s debatable, but there are at least 10 reasons RVs are not worth the trouble. Between fuel and upkeep, it’s a lot to pay for. This isn’t to put you off buying an RV but to make you aware that it’s a lot of work.

Fuel Costs

Have you seen how fuel prices fluctuate? One day a gallon might be close to affordable, the next you’re wondering what you can give up to keep your RV running. Is it worth the trouble to determine what’s essential just to keep this big hunk of metal moving?

Usage

When are you going to use it? Do you have the time? Is it worth the trouble to find a place to park it? Unless you’re constantly traveling, these things don’t really pay for themselves.

Depreciation

You know how a car depreciates after it leaves the lot? An RV is the same, as it will be worth a lot less when it comes time to sell it. This isn’t a smart financial investment, though it is a great way to make memories.

Repairs

There will be maintenance, oh yes, there WILL be maintenance. You’re operating a home on wheels, and homes always need maintenance. Think of it as a house that you’ll need to get tires for, a new battery for, and numerous other things that will break down.

Driving and Parking

This is not the family station wagon or even a bread van that you can get used to easily. The average RV is long, wide, and is difficult to drive and park. Plus, you’ll need to talk to the DMV and get a different type of license to drive this thing.

Upkeep Is A Prerequisite

Yes, there was another point about this. But it needs to be said again that an RV will need the proper upkeep. Get ready for constant upkeep.

Physical Demands

Unless you have the money to pay someone to take care of your RV, it will take a toll on you. Not only that, but driving this thing, and cleaning it, will demand more of you in a physical sense than many people realize.

Campgrounds Are a Challenge

It’s nice to find others who also utilize an RV, but scheduling a spot in a campground can be a chore. Not only that, but there’s no telling who you’ll meet, or if you’ll get along with them.

RV Storage

This is expensive, without question. Not only that, you need to think about how long you’ll need it in storage. Unless you have a lot of room on your property, this is a large reality you need to face.

Travel is Slow

Like it or not, a typical RV cannot get up a hill easily, and going down is a reason for caution. If you’re trying to rush to your location, it’s wise to go around any big obstacles.
