Speaking of class action settlements, did you know that one of the companies you work with most might actually owe you money? Oh, we weren’t speaking of class action settlements? I know it’s not a brilliantly witty, amusing or even interesting topic of conversation (unless we’re talking Erin Brockovich, of course) but it’s reality and it pays; so we are now officially discussing class action settlements. While it might seem like most of the suits you see advertised on television aren’t anything that apply to you, there are some class action suits that might.
Do you shop at Rite Aid? Or use Wells Fargo as a banking institution or lender? Do you try to make sure you’re only purchasing environmentally friendly products? I thought so; which means you might be entitled to a bit of compensation from a major company. If you aren’t certain, we have some information that will help you determine whether or not you’re actually on your way to earning a bit of money.
Rite Aid
It turns out that the pharmacy may or may not have tried to profit significantly off the health of its customers, and they’re currently in the process of paying for that decision. After January 1, 2005, the company began charging their clients a staggering $50 to $85 fee to gain access to their pharmacy records, something many customers have to do when they move or meet with a new doctor. This fee is too much, and a class action suit filed against the company proves that the fee is so far in excess of what it actually costs the company financially speaking to provide their customers with those records that they’ve been given an option to settle.
If you paid either the $50 or the $85 fee for your own pharmacy records since that 2005 date, you are very likely eligible to receive either $25 of $50 worth of Rite Aid gift cards. You have until March 7, 2016 to apply for this settlement.
Justice Stores
A very popular store for little girls, you might be entitled to a $20 voucher to apply toward a future purchase if you shopped here at all between January 1, 2015 and February 28, 2015. The store has been accused of falsely advertising their sales information and allowing their customers to believe that items marked down 40% off the original price were on sale. In fact, those items were marked up so that they could be marked back down to regular price via this sales tactic. You have until April 4, 2016 to file for this settlement.
Earth Friendly Items
The concept of purchasing all natural ingredients when you shop is one that many people prefer. It’s something they feel is safer for their families and their homes, and that makes it a big deal. The company Earth Friendly is known for their all natural products, but it turns out that some were not as all natural as it was once believed. If you purchased any products from the company between January 23, 2011 and November 5, 2011, you might find that you are entitled to a $25 refund. These products were proven, during this time frame, to include a product called methylisothiazione, which is an allergen as well as an irritant. File your claim by February 15. 2016 to claim this settlement.
Toyota Corolla
If you were ever the owner of a 2009 or 2010 Toyota Corolla, you might be entitled to compensation from the large automobile manufacturer. Both model years were equipped with a faulty power steering program that caused the vehicle to veer sharply in either direction when in operation, sometimes causing accidents and other dangerous driving experiences for drivers, passengers and everyone else on the road with them.
Anyone who qualifies for this class action settlement is slated to receive compensation for the costs of having this system repaired at any time. You have until March 15, 2016 to apply for reimbursement from this settlement.
Norton Download Insurance
We all use Norton at some point or another on at least one of our electronic devices for security and software protection, and it turns out there was a slight issue at one point. If you purchased any of the Extended Download Service or the Download Insurance through Norton between the dates of January 23, 2005 and March 10, 2011, you are eligible to apply for a cash payment through the company based on the findings of this settlement.
The company led customers to believe that the purchase of one or more of these products was required for them to continue to use and download other software from the company when it was not. This led to misrepresented downloads everywhere, and now those customers are entitled to as much as $50 in compensation for each of the products you downloaded throughout this timeframe.
You have to file by February 18, 2016 for this settlement.
Wells Fargo
If you have ever used Wells Fargo as your mortgage lender, you might be entitled to some compensation for their services. Anyone with a mortgage who was charged a bank assessment fee anytime between August 1, 2004 and December 31, 2013 is eligible for payment from the company. The bank engaged in improper practices sending an assessor out to properties to check them out when the owners fell behind on their mortgage payments, and then they hid the fees from the borrower and required that the borrower repay them.
Borrowers might see the fees in their statements as ‘other charges’ during that time, which is considered hiding the information from consumers. If you were someone with a Wells Fargo mortgage during this time frame and you ever fell behind on your payments for any reason, you might be able to seek compensation from the bank. You have until March 16, 2016 to file for this settlement.
