How to Split Household Chores and Avoid Fights

Mr. Clean

If you want something done right, you need to do it yourself. This is my motto. No matter how good someone’s intentions or how helpful they assume they are, no one is actually as good at doing things as me. That’s how I feel about the dusting of the furniture or the hanging of the laundry. Of course, I am more than likely just a bit over-the-top in terms of perfectionism and that’s my own fault. However, that doesn’t stop me from making sure that everyone in my household has their own job and that they do it so there are no arguments or fights. We all have jobs that we do so that our household runs smoothly at all times. Let’s face it; with four kids and a husband, we need structure and routine. And we need everyone to be as responsible for themselves as possible to make life smooth sailing. And we’re good at it. We have a divided the household chores and stopped the arguing and the expectations. It makes life easy, and I’ll tell you how to do it.

Make Your Desires Known

If you’re doing everything around the house and you’re tired of it, speak up. No one knows you are tired of it if you don’t tell them. They might assume you just do it because you like it. Say something. If you keep it in, you will argue.

Make a List

Sit everyone down and make a list of things that have to be done around the house and assign jobs. If you all have specific jobs that have to be done, you will be aware of it. This leads to no mistaking what happens and needs to happen, and everyone is happier because of it.

Make a Time Frame

Here’s the biggest piece of advice I can offer to you; time it. If you want things done at a certain time, you have to speak up. If you tell the kids they have to make their bed every day, tell them it has to be within 10 minutes of waking up. Otherwise, they might not make it before they leave for school, which is what you want. When there is no confusion, you have a happy household.
