In between cooking, cleaning, caring for the kids, finding time to brush your teeth, running your household, running kids to and from practice and double-checking to ensure the ensemble your husband chose for your child’s day at kindergarten is publicly appropriate (Moms…you know what I’m talking about), there’s little time left for work. As a busy mom and/or wife, your time belongs to everyone; except you, that is.
How do career-driven women find a way to balance their kids, marriages, work, and life at the same time? It’s not easy when the entire household lives on a different schedule, requiring you to be in 3 places at one time. While you certainly have eyes in the back of your head, you haven’t quite found a way to make it to a marketing meeting, a softball game and a ballet recital at the same time. It’s not (and it never has been and it probably never will be) easy to juggle so much all the time.
Can You Make Your Career Work for You?
Career-driven women who want to spend more time with their families while pursuing their careers find themselves in a precarious situation, often asking, “How can I put my degree to work and keep my career alive while still making it to cheer practice and school plays and mommy-and-me classes?”
The answer: FlexJobs. Sara Sutton Fell, CEO of FlexJobs, found an answer for every mom who has ever wanted to be a work-from-home mom with a flexible schedule. With approximately 14,000 flex jobs listed on her website on any given day, there’s a little something for everyone.
What is FlexJobs?
FlexJobs is more than just a career board for those who are looking for gainful employment. It’s a site where you will find only jobs that allow you to work flexible hours, telecommute or freelance. The best part is that these are jobs for women with careers. You won’t find pyramid positions or entry-level positions on FlexJobs. What you will find are thousands of career opportunities for women (and men – there’s no discrimination here) who work in the medical and health field, education, customer service, writing and editing and even sales positions – among endless others.
Is FlexJobs Right for Me?
FlexJobs is right for anyone, provided you have the passion for your work, the desire to pursue your career and the discipline to realize that working from home means working from home; not lounging by the pool all day sipping mimosas (Which is what I believe my mother thinks my work-from-home job consists of…and I don’t even have a pool).
Working from home is a great opportunity and it’s easier than ever. In the next few weeks, I will be taking advice from Sara Sutton Fell and creating a series of articles helping you learn how you can work from home. We’ll discuss everything from helping you find a flexible career (Um…on FlexJobs.com, obviously) to knowing how to spot a scam to figuring out if you can turn your current career into something a little more flexible. We will also discuss how working from home is an economical solution to many modern lifestyle issues.
Perhaps in the continuation of this series we will refer to Sara as the Fairy Godmother, since she’s been helping moms (and dads!) make their dreams come true since 2007. She and her team of hardworking (telecommuting) employees help you find the perfect work-from-home/flexible/telecommute position in your career field. Now if they could only find a way to get that laundry to do itself…
